Non Performative Yoga

Meet Carmen

Hi, I’m Carmen

Yoga teacher, lover of salads and softball.

I am a yoga and wellness coach supporting high-performing women and female athletes in returning to alignment, resilience, and embodied power—so they can lead, perform, and thrive without compromise.

My path has been shaped by over two decades in leadership and operations, including serving as a COO, co-founding Project Edquity (a DEIB consulting firm), and leading multimillion-dollar initiatives across education, nonprofits, and startups. From the outside, it reflected sustained success. Internally, it came with burnout and thyroid disease that revealed the cost of disconnection from self.

Yoga practice became my return home. Through the asanas and the philosophy of the eight limbs of yoga, I found myself again—rebuilding my relationship with my body, my mind, others, and the world around me. That transformation led me to become certified and ultimately shaped Sakura Wellness Solutions.

Today, I offer 1:1 coaching, group experiences, and cohort-based programs for women and girls ready to reconnect to themselves—body, mind, and spirit. My work creates grounded, intentional spaces where clients soften self-judgment, regulate the nervous system, and lead from self-trust, clarity, and self-respect.

The impact I am here to create is simple and deeply personal: women and girls living and leading in full alignment with who they truly are.

This is not about doing more. It is about returning to what is already true—so life, leadership, and performance can move in integrity and ease.

Practice

What do you love the most about practicing yoga?

Yoga, to me, is more than movement—it is a way of living that unites body, mind, and spirit. Rooted in the eight limbs of yoga, this practice offers a holistic path toward intention and alignment. While asana is the most visible form, my work invites a deeper integration of all eight limbs—extending far beyond the mat into how we live, lead, and show up each day.

Teaching

What do you love the most about teaching yoga?

I teach non-performative yoga—where it’s never about perfect bodies or perfect poses. It’s about showing up as you are, listening inward, and developing an authentic, sustainable practice that meets you in real life, not an idealized version of it.

In a world that often rewards performance and disconnection from the body, yoga offers a return to breath, sensation, and truth. I love watching that moment when someone softens, lands, and remembers that strength doesn’t have to mean strain.

For me, it’s about restoration, clarity, and helping people feel more at home in themselves again.

Favorite Pose

What is your favorite pose to practice?

My favorite pose is Child’s Pose — a space that represents both the beginning and the end. It’s where I return to myself, grounding into the present moment while feeling deeply connected to my past and supported by the earth beneath me.
